PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Ramzi Qawasmy (Landsdale, Pa.) of the Providence College men's soccer team was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, Nov. 4.
Paulo Lima (Lisbon, Portugal) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the second straight week.
Qawasmy scored the game winning goal in the 88
th minute over the Xavier Musketeers. He was assisted by
Joao Serrano (Evora, Portugal) and this was the sophomore's second career goal. He also helped the Friars defense hold Xavier to just three shots on the day and two on goal in the 2-1 win for Providence on Saturday, Nov. 2.
Lima scored the first goal for the Friars in a 2-1 win over Xavier marking his fifth goal of the season. He was assisted by
Gil Santos (Parede, Portugal). The goal in the 81
st minute tied the game at 1-1 in Cincinnati. This is the sophomore's second week in a row receiving BIG EAST honors.
Providence has its final game of the regular season at home this Wednesday, Nov. 6. The match will honor the seven seniors and start at 7:00 p.m. on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium. With the win over Xavier, the Friars have secured the No. 3 seed in the first round of the BIG EAST Championship giving them home field advantage. The first round will be this Saturday, Nov. 9 at 12:00 p.m.
