ANAHEIM, Calif. –  The Providence College men's basketball team was defeated by the College of Charleston, 63-55, on Friday, Nov. 29 in its second game of the Wooden Legacy in Anaheim, Calif. David Duke (Providence, R.I.) had a career high 22 points on the afternoon to lead the Friars.

The Friars were led by Duke who registered 22 points, five assists and two rebounds. Duke shot 7-8 from the field and 3-4 from three-point land on the day. Senior Alpha Diallo (New York, N.Y.) was the other Friar with double-digit scoring. He contributed 13 points, six rebounds and five assists.

Emmitt Holt (Rochester, N.Y.) opened the scoring for the Friars giving them a 2-0 lead. Duke hit the first three of the day to put them up 5-2 with 18:01 on the clock.

Going into the first media timeout, the Friars trailed by one after two consecutive Cougar baskets to make the score 6-5. Providence found their rhythm to go on 14-0 scoring run fueled by Diallo who scored seven of the points. The Cougars ended their six-minute scoring drought with a jumper on the inside right.

At the 7:26 mark in the first half, PC found themselves with a 10-point lead (22-12). Nate Watson (Portsmouth, Va.) was fouled in the paint on a made shot and was able to finish the three-point play. The Cougars', Grant Miller, made back to back shots to bring the game within five.

With 3:41 left in the first, PC had a 26-20 lead. Charleston converted on five of its last six trips down the floor. Coming out of the last media timeout of the half, Charleston finished a three-point play in the paint to cut the Friars' lead to three.

Holt drained a three ball from the right with under a minute left in the half which was quickly followed by a Cougars' second chance layup down the other end. After 20 minutes of play the Friars had the lead 29-27. Providence shot 12-28 (43%) from the field and 3-11 (27.3%) from behind the arc. Charleston was 11-22 (50.0%) and 2-6 (30.0%) from three. The cougars had the advantage in rebounds, 18 to the Friars 10.

Diallo picked up his third foul with just 54 seconds into the second half which sent Jaylen McManus to the line for a pair that he hit to tie the game at 29.

Charleston banked in a three with 15:51 on the clock which Duke quickly responded with a three of his own to keep the game knotted at 37. Charleston went on 6-0 run (43-37) forcing Providence to call a timeout.

PC could not find the hoop, only making three field goals in the first 11 minutes of play in the second half. The Cougars made another 6-0 run to extend their lead to 49-38 which was their largest lead of the game. Providence had not scored a field goal for eight minutes until Watson found the bottom of the net with 6:52 left.
Luwane Pipkins (Chicago, Ill.) found Duke on the fast break for an alleyoop dunk to bring the Friars within six with 5:45 left. With 3:39, the Cougars held an eight-point lead to make it 55-47. The Friars pulled out a full court press for the last minutes of the game which resulted in a quick Charleston turnover to an easy Duke layup. The score was 59-53.

The Friars final efforts were not enough to get the win. Overall, Providence shot 19-56 (33.9%), 4-19 (21.1%) from three-point land, and 13-18 (72.2%). The corralled 25 rebounds and had 11 steals.
