BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Providence College men's and women's cross-country teams competed against nationally and regionally ranked teams at the NCAA Northeast Regional Meet (Nov. 15) in Buffalo, N.Y. Due to concerns about poor footing, ice and student-athlete safety, the race was changed to a road course through the campus of the University of Buffalo. The women placed 10
th out of 37 teams and the men placed 13
th out of 37 teams. Three Friars finished with All-Region Honors due to placing in the top-25.

For the women's 6k race, senior
Abbey Wheeler (Elmira, N.Y.) finished first for Friars in the competitive field. Wheeler went out in the top-15 and maintained her position through the windy road course. Wheeler went on to finish 15
th(19:55.6) overall, earning All-Region Honors.
Â
Freshman
Lilly Tuck (Sunderland, Canada) and junior
Maria Coffin (Annapolis, Md.) were the second and third runners across the line for Providence. Tuck ran a strong race, positioning herself in the top-30 from the gun. As the race progressed, Tuck moved through the field to place 23
rd (20:12.7) overall, earning All-Region Honors. Coffin was not far behind finishing in 32
nd (20:22.5), a 33-place improvement from last year's regional championship.Â

Rounding out the top-five were freshmen
Tessa Hunt (Wellington, New Zealand) and
Ashley Foley (Beverly, Mass.) placing 81
st (21:07.8) and 128
th (21:46.9), respectively.

On the men's side, junior
Marcelo Rocha (Peabody, Mass.) was the first Friar to cross the line in the cold conditions. Rocha went out in the top-10 and led the race for 3,500 meters. As the race progressed, he began to drop back maintaining his position in the top-25 for the second half of the race. Rocha finished 25
th (29:29.4) overall and earned All-Regional Honors. The juniors improved 93 spots (118
th) from last season's race.

Junior
Ryan Gallagher (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.) and senior
Marcus Karamanolis (Wellington, New Zealand) were the second and third Friars across the line. Gallagher positioned himself in the 60's for the entire race, maintaining his place to finish 64
th in a time of 30:07.3. Karamanolis progressed throughout the race, running a strong last 2,000 meters to finish 97
th (30:39.8).Â

Rounding out the top-five were sophomore
Sean Meehan (East Greenwich, R.I.) and junior
Peter Rindfuss (Hamburg, N.Y.) finishing 101
st (30:44.3) and 107
th (30:47.5), respectively.Â
The men and women will be competing next week at the ECAC/IC4AÂ Championships on Saturday, November 23
rd at Van Cortlandt Park in New York.Â
