PROVIDENCE, R.I.– Fourth-year women's basketball Head Coach
Jim Crowley announced today [Nov. 13] that Grace Efosa (Lawrence, Mass.) and Julia Fabozzi (Staten Island, N.Y.) have each signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Providence College, beginning in the fall of 2020.
"The addition of Grace and Julia make our program better and we are very excited to welcome them to Friartown," Head Coach
Jim Crowley said. "Both of these student-athletes will make a positive impact on our program and the Providence College community."
Efosa, a 5-foot, 11-inch, guard currently attends Whittier Tech and played AAU for Evolution Basketball. She will return to the court for her senior campaign at Whittier in 2019-20 after missing last season with an injury. As a sophomore, she averaged 23.4 points per game. During her rookie season, she averaged an impressive 14.8 points per contest. Efosa is a two-time Eagle-Tribune All-Star and 2018 Most Valuable Player. In addition to success on the basketball court, Efosa is an All-State performer in the triple-jump.
"Grace will bring versatility to the perimeter for us," Crowley said. "She is explosive in transition, gets in the paint in the half court and can knock down the three-point shot. Her length and strength make her a very good on ball defender."
Fabozzi, a 6-foot, 2-inch, guard/forward currently attends Xaverian High School and played AAU ball for Exodus. She became the first-ever Xaverian girls basketball player to earn All-League First-Team honors as a junior (2018-19), during which she averaged 14.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. Fabozzi also becomes the first player from Xaverian to compete at the NCAA Division I level for basketball. Entering her senior campaign, she has Xaverian ranked No. 8 in the NYCHoops.net Preseason Top-10.
"Julia is a very skilled offensive player who can score the ball in a lot of ways," Crowley said. "She has a very good feel for the game and her versatility will be a great asset in how we [Providence] like to play."
The addition of Efosa and Fabozzi for the Friars' 2020-21 season will complement a veteran roster, which is only losing one player to graduation following the 2019-20 season. The Friars are currently 1-0 heading into their second game of the year against Hartford tonight [Nov. 13] in West Hartford, Conn. The squad is coming off of a 19-16 season a year ago, during which the Friars made their first post-season appearance since 2010, advancing to the Round of 16 in the Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT).
