Women’s Soccer Defeats Brown, 2-0

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women's soccer team defeated Brown, 2-0, on Thursday, Sept. 6 on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium in a battle of cross-city rivals.

GAME FLOW & NOTES

The Friars held a commanding 13-0 advantage in shots at the end of the first half.
Camille Murphy (Seattle, Wash.) paced Providence with four shots, two on target in the first half.
Hannah McNulty (Warwick, R.I.) and Hailee Duserick (Canton, Mass.) each rang the crossbar in the opening half.
Sophomore Amber Birchwell (Mastic, N.Y.) notched her second goal of the season on assists from Duserick and Kayla Steeves (Needham, Mass.).
The game was delayed by lightning for 30 minutes at the end of the first half.
Brown registered all six shots in the second half while making a push for the equalizer.
McNulty added an insurance goal in the 87^th minute. Theresa Durkee (Salem, Conn.) set up the play by running onto a ball about 10 yards outside the 18-yard box. The goalkeeper left her line to deflect the ball away from Durkee, but McNulty cleaned it up and lofted a shot over the defense and in.
Hogan finished the night with three saves to record her fourth shutout of the season. On the opposing side, Christine Etzel tallied eight saves on 21 shots for the Bears.
