Michael Wyman and Abbey Wheeler Earn BIG EAST Athletes of the Week for Cross Country.

New York, N.Y. –The BIG EAST announced its weekly cross country awards on Wednesday, Sept. 5. Graduate student Michael Wyman (Marion, Mass.) and junior Abbey Wheeler (Elmira, N.Y.) were both named BIG EAST Athletes of the Week for their respective performances at the UNH Dual Meet on Saturday, Sept. 1.
Wyman finished first overall in the men's 5k with a time of 15:05.63 at the UNH Dual Meet to lead the Friars to the win. Wyman was the first to come through the line after running with a pack of six Friars, until the last 800 meters. The Friars took the top eight spots in the race, with a perfect score of 15 points.
Wheeler also was first overall with a time of 17:21.37 in the women's 5k at the UNH Dual Meet to lead the Friars to victory. Wheeler finished side-by-side with one of her Friar teammates (Maria Coffin, 2ndplace). The next closest finisher to Wheeler came in 26-seconds later.
The Providence College men's and women's cross country teams will race in the Coast-To-Coast Battle in Beantown in Boston, Mass. on Sept. 21 at 3:00 P.M.
