Providence, R.I. - The Providence College Women's Tennis team was defeated today, Mar. 22, by Brown University. Visiting their cross town rivals, the Friars fell 7-0 in a difficult match.
Brown secured the doubles point with tough 6-3 wins on courts 2 and 3. Risa Takenaka and Aidan Epstein's furious comeback bid on court 1 was halted after the doubles point was clinched.
In Singles, many Friars put on strong performances in their first sets before Brown fought back for the victories. Junior Risa Takenaka carried her momentum from doubles over to Singles no. 1 with wins in several key games before falling to her opponent 6-3, 6-1. In Singles no. 4, freshman Lauryn Jacobs shook off a 6-2 loss in the first set in a back and forth 7-5 second set which came down to a few important points.
Providence returns home for two matches next week on the Providence College campus, starting their first outdoor home matches on the year. The Friars will take on Bryant on Tuesday, Mar. 27, and Sacred Heart on Wednesday, Mar. 28. Both matches will begin at 3:00pm.
