PROVIDENCE, R.I. –
Colin Miller (Bel Air, Md.) and
Tiago Mendonca (Faro, Portugal) of the Providence College men's soccer team were named to the United Soccer Coaches All-East Region Third Team today (Dec. 5).
Miller, the Friars' starting goalkeeper for the past three seasons, started all 19 games in net this season. The redshirt senior logged 1,778 minutes and tallied nine shutouts. The nine shutouts broke his personal record for shutouts in a season. Overall, Miller held a 1.06 goals against average and a .720 save percentage through the season. Entering the season, Miller was tabbed Preseason BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year and named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team. During the season, he earned SMU All-Tournament Team, Capitol City Classic All-Tournament Team, Capitol City Classic MVP and BIG EAST Second Team honors.
Mendonca started all 19 games for the Friars this season and logged 1,556 minutes in the midfield. He led the team in goals (five), points (10) and shots (40). The redshirt junior surpassed his previous career high for goals (two) and points (four) in a season. Earlier this season, Mendonca was named to the Capitol City Classic All-Tournament Team. At the conclusion of the regular season, he was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team.
The Providence College men's soccer team finished the 2018 season with a record of 10-7-2 overall and 6-2-1 in BIG EAST play. The Friars entered the BIG EAST Tournament as the No. 3 seed and reached the semifinal for the fifth time in the last six seasons.
