PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The BIG EAST Conference announced on Sunday, Nov. 4 the 2018 BIG EAST All-Tournament Team following the conclusion of the BIG EAST Championship game between Georgetown and Butler. Georgetown won its third consecutive BIG EAST Women's Soccer Championship with their 1-0 win this afternoon over the Bulldogs.
The Friars nabbed two spots on the All-Tournament team after their loss in the semifinal round on Thursday, Nov. 1 in Indianapolis, Ind. against Butler (3-2). Providence's
Shelby Hogan (Franklin, Mass.) and
Amber Birchwell (Mastic, N.Y.) were named to the All-Tournament Team.
Hogan, a BIG EAST second team member, tallied eight saves and earned one shutout in their BIG EAST Tournament efforts against St. John's and Butler. Birchwell sent the Friars to the BIG EAST Semifinal with her game-winning goal against St. John's in Queens, N.Y. Birchwell scored in the 31
st minute after a corner kick was headed around in the box before
Hannah McNulty (Warwick, R.I.) headed it up to Birchwell to finish. Birchwell scored her second goal of the tournament against Butler in the semifinal, she cut the lead to one in the 88th minute after finishing a rebound.
