PROVIDENCE, R.I. –
The Providence College men's basketball team defeated the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights, 69-59, on Tuesday, Nov. 27 to improve to 4-0 at home this season. Providence now holds a 3-1 record all-time versus Fairleigh Dickinson and a 5-2 record on the season.

Head Coach Ed Cooley started three of his freshmen for the fourth-consecutive game. David Duke (Providence, R.I.), A.J. Reeves (Roxbury, Mass.) and Jimmy Nichols Jr. (Conway, S.C.) got the call alongside juniors Alpha Diallo (New York, N.Y.) and Kalif Young (Vaughan, Ontario).

Diallo scored a game-high 20 points on 8-14 shooting and added nine rebounds. He scored 16 of his 20 points in the second half to keep up with the Fairleigh Dickinson offense.

The length and size of Nate Watson (Arlington, Va.) and Isaiah Jackson (Gainesville, Fla.) helped them dominate the inside. Watson finished with 10 points and seven rebounds.  Jackson had 11 points and five rebounds off the bench.

Providence looked to score in the paint all game, scoring 20 of their 30 points in the key in the first half. Nichols Jr. started the game with a turnaround jumper from the left block which got the Friars going. Providence led 12-10 at the second media timeout (11:11).

The Friars used 14 bench points in the first half after Cooley called to his bench early. Makai Ashton-Langford (Worcester, Mass.), Jackson, and Drew Edwards (Perry Hall, Md.) led a defensive push that transitioned into their offense.

Watson and Ashton-Langford connected for a long alley-oop at the 9:17 mark that contributed to the Friars 9-2 run. Ashton-Langford had the ball on the right wing before delivering a perfect pass over the top to Watson for the finish. The Friars led 21-12 with 7:56 remaining in the first half.

Ashton-Langford delivered another nice assist from a one-handed bounce pass from midcourt to Reeves streaking down the right side that increased the Friar lead to 28-19 with 13 seconds left in the half. A.J. Reeves hit two free throws to give the Friars a 30-19 lead at the break. Ashton-Langford scored six points, dished three assists, and added two steals in the game.

The second half began as a back and forth affair, Providence outscored the Knights 14-13 heading into the second media timeout (11:47) with a 44-32 lead.
Fairleigh Dickinson cut the lead to single digits with 8:45 remaining after Xzavier Malone-Key hit a deep three-pointer from the top of the key. Reeves responded with his first three of the night to increase their lead to 49-38 with 8:39 remaining.

Providence held a 59-47 lead at the 3:18 mark after making five of their last six field goals at the time.

Providence held the Knights offense to 43.4 percent shooting from the field. They outscored Fairleigh Dickinson 40-20 in the paint and 27-8 in bench points.

Up next Providence will host the Rhode Island Rams on Saturday, Dec. 1 in the Dunkin' Donuts Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. and will be televised on FS1.
