Shelby Hogan (Franklin, Mass.) and
Katie Day (East Kingston, N.H.) of Providence College women's soccer highlighted the BIG EAST Weekly Awards, as announced by the league office on Oct. 8. Hogan was named Goalkeeper of the Week, while Day was named the Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season.
Hogan improved to 8-4-2 on the season after recording back-to-back shutouts against St. John's (Oct. 4) and Marquette (Oct. 7). In the Friars' 1-0 win over Marquette, Hogan tied her season-high in shutouts (seven). Hogan recorded two saves in the Friars scoreless draw against St. John's and five saves in their win over Marquette. Hogan holds a 0.69 goals against average and 0.872 save percentage.
Day scored the game-winning goal for the Friars against Marquette (1-0) on Oct. 7. The goal marked her first of the season and fifth in her career. Day controlled the defense throughout their back-to-back shutouts. She has recorded a season-high 10 shots this season and her goal marked her first points of the year. Day has started every game this season for the Friars.
