PROVIDENCE, R.I. –
The Providence College men's basketball team wrapped up their exhibition slate for the season with an 83-55 win over the Bowie State Bulldogs in the Dunkin' Donuts Center on Saturday, Oct. 27.

The Friars were led by Emmitt Holt (Rochester, N.Y.), who finished one rebounds short of a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds. A.J. Reeves contributed off the bench with nine points, including six rebounds and one assist.

Holt opened the scoring for the Friars recording the first six points, starting with a put back dunk at the 19:19 mark. Bowie State answered with a David Belle three before Holt received back-to-back assists on the block, coming from Alpha Diallo (New York, N.Y.) on a fast break and a no look pass from David Duke (Providence, R.I.). Bowie State started hot from three-point range, going 3-3 in the first four minutes of play.

The Friars struggled for the next 2:08, going scoreless as the Bulldogs went 3-3 to tie the game, 15-15 with 12:11 left in the first half. A.J. Reeves (Roxbury, Mass.) broke the scoring drought as he cut behind the defense on the baseline, where he received a bounce pass from Makai-Ashton Langford (Worcester, Mass.) for an easy dunk.

Both teams traded buckets over the next 8:00 minutes, Nate Watson broke into the scoring column with three buckets in the paint while the Bulldogs scored four fast break points and connected on a three to make the game even, 29-29 with 3:23 left in the first half.

Providence went on an 8-0 run to end the half up 37-29, capped off by an Isaiah Jackson (Gainesville, Fla.) and-one layup on a fast break.

Freshman David Duke led the Friars in the first 20:00 minutes, recording eight points, four rebounds and three assists. Duke showed off his finishing around the rim, converting three left-handed finishes in traffic. He finished with ten points, five rebounds and five assists.

Providence shot 44.1 percent from the field in the first half while Bowie State shot 38.7 percent respectively.

Jackson picked off two passes to start the second half, finishing off a dunk on the first possession and then used the rim for protection on his second steal resulting in a layup.

Providence found success in the paint in the second half, increasing their lead to 51-36 with 14:17 left in regulation. Alpha Diallo (New York, N.Y.) drove twice down the lane before dumping the ball off for two thunderous dunks by Nate Watson (Arlington, Va.). Watson finished with a team-high 14 points and five rebounds.

Providence turned over the Bulldogs five times during a 12-2 run starting at the 12:05 mark, producing back-to-back threes for Reeves and Diallo. Minutes later, Makai Ashton-Langford (Worcester, Mass.) came up with a steal that he threw up to Reeves for an acrobatic alley-oop dunk to make the lead 65-40.

Diallo paced the Friars in the second half, scoring 11 of his 12 points, finishing with five rebounds and five assists.
