No. 5 Men's Hockey to Face Off Against UConn and Sacred Heart This Weekend

The Friars host UConn on Friday before traveling to Bridgeport to face Sacred Heart on Saturday.

- Providence dropped a 3-0 decision to No. 2 Notre Dame in the title game of the 2018 Ice Breaker in Erie, Pa. last Saturday.
- The Friars kick off Hockey East play where they have combined for a 41-17-10 record over the past three seasons in league play.
- All eight point-getters for the Friars this season have notched two points (Bryson, Conway, Desharnais, Dugan, Mirageas, Printz, Sukumaran and Young).
- Jacob Bryson and Josh Wilkins have each average a point per game against UConn over their first two seasons.
- Hayden Hawkey has earned a 4-1-0 record with a 1.41 GAA, a .936 save percentage and one shutout against the Huskies. He has stopped 102-of-109 shots in his career against UConn.
- With a win on Saturday night, the program would reach 1,000 wins all-time.

SERIES HISTORY VS. UCONN
• Providence and UConn kick off the Hockey East slate on Friday night at Schneider Arena. The Friars will compete the season series in the penultimate regular season game at the XL Center on March 2.
• The Huskies snapped a six-game losing streak to the Friars, earning a 3-1 win at Schneider Arena in the last meeting on Jan. 20, 2018.
 
SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
• UConn opened the season with a 5-2 win at Army West Point before dropping a 4-2 decision against in-state rival Quinnipiac on Tuesday night.
• Freshman Jonny Evans leads the way in scoring with three points through two games, while Alex Payusov, Ben Freeman, Ruslan Iskhakov, and Jachym Kondelik have all recorded two points thus far.
• In goal, New York Rangers prospect Adam Huska has posted a 2.51 GAA and .918 save percentage through two games.
• Head Coach Mike Cavanaugh enters his sixth season at Connecticut, registering a 66-89-25 record over that span.
 
SERIES HISTORY VS. SACRED HEART
• The Friars and Pioneers will meet for the fifth time on Saturday night and the first time in Bridgeport.
• Providence has claimed the previous four meetings by a combined score of 28-7, including an 8-2 win in the teams' most recent meeting on Oct. 12, 2012.
 
SCOUTING THE PIONEERS
• The Pioneers opened the 2018-19 season with a pair of losses to Northeastern last weekend.
• Sacred Heart's sophomore Matt Tugnutt has registered two points through the first two games, while Mike Lee and Marc Johnstone have also found the scoresheet.
• Senior Brett Magnus has surrendered nine goals through two games in posting a 4.51 GAA and .842 save percentage.
• Head Coach C.J. Marottolo is currently in his 10th season at the helm of the Pioneers.
 
ELEVEN GAMES TO AIR ON NBC SPORTS BOSTON
Providence College Athletics announced that NBC Sports Boston, the broadcast home of the Boston Celtics will televise 11 men's hockey home games during the 2018-19 season. Eight of the 11 games will be shown live, while the remaining three games with be tape delayed following the conclusion of Celtics coverage.

ALL GAMES TO AIR LIVE ON NEWSRADIO 104.7 FM
Beginning with the 2018-19 hockey season, all Friars men's hockey games, in addition to all pregame and postgame network programming will be carried live on NewsRadio 104.7 FM. The agreement also includes 10 editions of the Nate Leaman Coaches Show that will air throughout the season. Mike Logan, who is entering his 24th season as the voice of the Friars, will call all the live action this season on 104.7 FM.  Logan also will host the Nate Leaman Coaches show on 104.7 FM.

PRINTZ'S GAME-WINNERS
Five of sophomore Greg Printz's six career goals have been game-winning goals, including both of Providence's game-winners this season.
 
BJORKQVIST, BRYSON, AND DESHARNAIS LEAD THE FRIARS
Juniors Kasper Björkqvist and Jacob Bryson were named captains for this season, while senior defenseman Vincent Desharnais was named an alternate captain.
 
SCHNEIDER SUCCESS
The current group of seniors have dominated at Schneider Arena over the last three-plus seasons, going 42-7-5 over that span (.824).
 
THREE IS THE MAGIC NUMBER
The Friars are 130-12-13 all-time under Nate Leaman when scoring three or more goals in a game.
 
AFTER 40
The Friars are 122-5-10 all-time under Nate Leaman when holding a lead after two periods.
 
UP NEXT
The Friars visit Agganis Arena and the Boston University Terriers on Friday, Oct. 26 in the first of three meetings between the schools this season.
