NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Senior Risa Takenaka and freshman Haley Gurski both participated for the Providence College women's tennis team at the ITA Northeast Regionals this past weekend in New Haven, Conn.

The ITA Northeast Regional championship main draws started Friday. With a great opportunity to compete against the region's best players from 40 schools, Risa Takenaka and Haley Gurski represented the Friars.

After a highly-contested match, Gurski and Takenaka fell short in the first round of doubles 8-7. The team had one match point at 7-6, with a deuce point but couldn't finish.

In singles, Takenaka fell short advancing to the second round in ITA regional championship. Battling in three sets versus Rutgers during windy conditions, Takenaka couldn't get inside striking distance to an upset. Takenaka took the first set at 6-3, but the momentum shifted and Rutgers claimed the final two sets.
