The Friars fell in the 2018 Ice Breaker Championship Game on Saturday night.

ERIE, Pa.The No. 4/5 Providence College men's hockey team dropped a 3-0 decision to No. 2 Notre Dame on Saturday night (Oct. 13) in the 2018 Ice Breaker Championship Game at Erie Insurance Arena.

NOTES
- The Friars penalty kill continued to shine in the opening period, killing off all three Notre Dame chances while allowing just one shot on goal. Nine shot blocks in the first period keyed the penalty kill unit.
- Kasper Björkqvist paced the Friars with three shots in the opening period.
- Providence had their chances on the power play in the second period, but Morris stood tall for the Irish in goal.
- Notre Dame broke the ice late in the period as Joe Wegwerth wristed a shot from the half-wall that hit a body out front and bounced into the back of the net at 17:36.
- The goal was the first power play goal surrendered by the Friars in the season's first 17 opportunities.
- The Friars nearly knotted things up as the buzzer sounded when Brandon Duhaime was denied by Morris and the rebound was put off the post by Greg Printz.
- The Irish tacked on two insurance goals in the third period by Colin Theisen and Bobby Nardella to make it a three-goal margin for Notre Dame.
- Providence falls to 0-5-1 in their last six meetings with the Irish dating back to 2016-17.

3-0 (Notre Dame) – 10:35/3rd – PP – Bobby Nardella (Peeke) – Shot from the point and the rebound was cleaned up by Nardella.
