This marks the eighth-consecutive year women’s soccer achieved this award.

Providence, R.I. – United Soccer Coaches announced the Team Academic Award Winners on Thursday, Oct. 4 for the 2017-18 academic year. The Friars were one of 812 teams (306 men, 506 women) to earn the Team Academic Award. This marks the eighth-consecutive year the team has won the award, including each season under the direction of Head Coach Sam Lopes.

United Soccer Coaches annually applauds the academic achievements of high school and college soccer teams whose student-athletes demonstrate a commitment to excellence in their academic studies. To qualify for an award, a team must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 or higher for the entire academic year. The team GPA is determined by adding every player's GPA, then dividing by the number of players.

The Friars will head to Washington, D.C. to take on No. 4 Georgetown this Sunday (Oct. 14). Kick-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
