Volleyball Opens Up Hatter Classic with a Win Against ECU

DeLand, Fla. - The Providence College volleyball team began the Hatter Classic tournament in DeLand, Fla. with a win against East Carolina University today (Friday, Sept. 1). With the win, the Friars improved to 4-0 on the season.

MATCH AGAINST ECU NOTES:

- The Friars swept the match against the Pirates winning the sets, 25-15, 25-15 and 25-18. By winning all three sets, Providence extended their set win streak to nine straight.

-Junior Allison Impellizeri (Seaford, N.Y.) and junior Megan Onyundo (Woodbridge, Va.) paced the Friars offensively with nine kills each.

-Freshman Allison Barber (Woodbury, Minn.) acted as the setter for the Friars, contributing 35 assists in the win.

-McKenzie Lydon (Stuart, Fla.) was the lone Friar with double-digit digs as she led Providence with 14 total.

-As a team, Providence accumulated 42 kills and held ECU to only 29.

NEXT UP: The Friars return to action on Saturday, Sept. 2 for the second day of the Hatter Classic. Providence will first take on Bucknell at 12:00 before finishing the tournament against Stetson at 7:00 p.m.
