WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Providence College women's basketball team fell to BIG EAST foe Georgetown, 72-70, in overtime on Feb. 3 in Washington, D.C. Senior guard Sarah Beal (Matthews, N.C.) paced the Friars with 24 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists. It marked Beal's first double-double of the season and fourth of her career.

The first quarter was a back-and-forth affair that featured eight lead changes and three ties. The Friars held a 16-14 lead at the conclusion of the opening 10 minutes.

Providence held a 23-22 advantage with 4:11 remaining in the second quarter. The Hoyas went on an 8-0 run to gain a 30-23 lead with 1:17 left on the clock. Providence responded with five unanswered points to close the quarter to get within one of Georgetown at halftime (30-28).

The Friars got out to their largest lead of the game (52-46) with 16 seconds left on the clock in the third quarter. The Hoyas cut the lead to five (52-47) heading into the final frame as Tyshell King hit one-of-two shots from the foul line. PC shot 62.5-percent from the field in the third (10-16)

Georgetown started the fourth quarter with a 9-1 run to take a three-point lead (56-53) with 5:08 to play. The Friars rallied to score nine unanswered points to take a six-point advantage with 1:52 on the clock (62-56).

Faith Woodard halted the run with a three-point bucket for Georgetown and Mykia Jones added a lay-up to get the Hoyas within one (62-61) with 16-seconds remaining in regulation.

After a timeout, Georgetown committed a foul with 13 seconds left that sent Allegra Botteghi (Bologna, Italy) to the line for two. Botteghi buried both free throws to give Providence a 64-61 lead. The Hoyas quickly called timeout to draw up their final offensive play and advance the ball.

Dionna White's three-point attempt was long off the iron, but Woodard collected the offensive rebound on the weak side and drained a three with 0.6 seconds left in the game.

In overtime, the Friars took a 68-64 lead with 3:05 on the clock as Botteghi hit a jumper followed by a pair of Beal free throws. The Hoyas answered back with four-straight points to tie the game, 68-68, with 2:42 on the clock before Beal put Providence back on top with a pair of free throws (70-68).

Woodard and King tallied back-to-back buckets to give Georgetown a 72-70 lead with 50 seconds on the clock, but the Friars turned the ball over on the ensuing possession as Maddie Jolin (Rehoboth, Mass.) was called for an offensive foul going to the hoop.

Providence got a stop on the defensive end, forcing a wild attempt from DiDi Burton that resulted in a shot-clock violation. The Friars called timeout to advance the ball and draw up a play with three seconds left, but Yoyo Nogic's (Lisbon, Portugal) long distance attempt was off the mark.

Nogic finished the day with 17 points, while Botteghi contributed 12 points. Jolin, who missed the previous three games with an injury, returned to the court and added eight points and eight boards.

Woodard paced Georgetown with 17 points and White finished with 14 points and six assists.

The Friars return to action on Sunday, Feb. 5 against BIG EAST foe Villanova. Tip-off is slated for 1:00 p.m. at The Pavilion in Villanova, Pa. The game will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network via FOX Sports GO.
