VILLANOVA, PA. – The Providence College volleyball team finished its regular season with a match against the Villanova Wildcats on Saturday, Nov. 18. The Friars dropped the match of the season, 3-0. With the loss, Providence finished the regular season with a record of 17-16 and 6-12 in the BIG EAST. It was Providence's first winning season since 2007 and the Friars had a five match win improvement in BIG EAST play from last season.
FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS:
-The Friars dropped the first set, 25-12.
-Addison Root (Wichita, Kan.) tallied three kills in set one.
-Allison Barber (Woodbury, Minn.) recorded six assists.
-McKenzie Lydon (Stuart, Fla.) had three digs.
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS:
-Providence lost the second set, 25-18.
-Root added five more kills while Jenae Alderson (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) added three in the set.
-Barber recorded nine assists, three digs and one solo block in the set.
-The Friars held Villanova to a .107 hitting percentage in the second set.
THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS:
-Providence dropped the third and final set with a score of 25-20.
-Root had five more kills in the third set. Allison Impellizeri (Seaford, N.Y.) also recorded three kills.
-Barber tallied nine more assists in the third set.
-Megan Onyundo (Woodbridge, Va.) had four digs in the final set.
MATCH HIGHS:
-Root led the team with 13 kills.
-Barber recorded 24 assists to lead Providence.
-Lydon led the team with eight digs while both Barber and Onyundo recorded six each.
