PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College field hockey team defeated BIG EAST foe Quinnipiac, 2-1, on Friday, Oct. 6 in Providence, R.I. The win was critical for the Friars as the two teams entered the game in a three-way tie [with Liberty] in the BIG EAST standings. Providence improved to 8-4 overall and 3-1 in conference play. Quinnipiac dropped to 3-10 overall and 2-2 in the BIG EAST.

GAME FLOW & NOTES
- The Friars controlled the majority of play in the first half and out-shot the Bobcats, 5-2, and held a 5-1 edge in penalty corners.
- The teams went to halftime in a scoreless draw (0-0).
- Megan Guilbert recorded two of her three saves in the game during the first half. Livy Golini collected one save in the opening 35 minutes for Quinnipiac.
- The Friars took a 1-0 lead at 43:30 as sophomore Izzy Mendez (Cedar Grove, N.J.) one-timed a blast into the upper left of the cage. Senior Allie Lancaster (Cornville, Maine) was credited with the assist as she crossed the ball from the right endline.
- Sophomore Mikayla Michals (Needham, Mass.) made it a 2-0 lead for Providence after converting a penalty stroke opportunity at 46:52.
- Quinnipiac found the back of the cage just one minute and 28-seconds later as Lauren Belskie scored on a tip-in during a corner. Elisa Ruiz Martinez was credited with the assist.
- The Providence out-shot Quinnipiac, 11-5, in the game and held a 7-3 edge in penalty corners.
