The Providence College women's tennis team notched their first dual meet victory of the year, topping Fairfield University on Wednesday, Oct. 5 in Providence, R.I. The Friars bested the Stags 5-2 on their home tennis courts.
Sophomore Risa Takenaka (Saint Charles, Mo.) went to three sets in No. 1 singles, outlasting Sarah Stuhlmann of Fairfield (6-7, 6-4, 6-2).
Senior Amanda Pitocco (Warwick, R.I.) took two out of three sets in No. 3 singles, bringing home the point for the Friars. Freshmen Aidan Epstein (Fairway, Kan.) and Natalie Pitocco (Warwick, R.I.) also earned victories in No. 5 (6-2, 6-3) and No. 6 singles (6-2, 6-3), both winning in straight sets.
The Friars topped the Stags in first and second doubles, enough to earn the doubles point.
The Providence College Friars continue back-to-back dual meet play on Thursday, Oct. 6 at 5:00 p.m. ET at the Providence College tennis courts against the Holy Cross Crusaders.
