Providence College Names Melissa Scungio Head Cheerleading Coach

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -

It was announced last month that Melissa Scungio was named the head coach of Providence’s Cheerleading team. Scungio joins the Friars after spending seven seasons at the University of Rhode Island as the Head Cheerleading Coach and Assistant Spirit Coordinator. Scungio led the Rhode Island team to a first place and Grand Champ finish at the New England Cheer and Dance Competition for three consecutive years (2012-14). As the head coach, Scungio led the first All Girl Cheerleading team to compete at the UCA College National Championship in 2014.

Scungio attended the University of Rhode Island where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology. She is currently a Physical Education and Health teacher in the Fall River Public School system. She resides in East Providence, R.I.
