Women's Tennis Defeated In Home Opener, 6-1

Providence, R.I. - The Providence College women's tennis team took on the University of Rhode Island in its 2016-17 home opener on Sunday, Oct. 2 in Providence, R.I. The Friars were defeated by the Rams, 6-1.

Sophomore Risa Takenaka (Saint Charles, Mo.) had her No. 1 singles debut, losing to Mihaela Codreanu in straight sets (6-3, 6-2).

Freshman Natalie Pitocco (Warwick, R.I.) had the lone singles victory for the Friars in the No. 6 spot. Pitocco would earn her victory in straight sets (6-4, 6-3) marking her first singles victory with the Friars.

Takenaka alongside Freshman Aidan Epstein (Fairway, Kan.) came out on top in the No. 2 doubles spot. Their efforts would not be enough to earn the doubles point, as the Rams won in the No. 1 and No. 3 slots.

The Providence College Friars return to the court on Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 3:00 p.m. ET at the Providence College tennis courts against the Fairfield University Stags.
