Women's Soccer Travels to St. John's

The women's soccer team will travel to St. John's University for a match scheduled for Friday, Oct. 28 at 7:00 p.m. in Queens N.Y. The game marks the team's last regular season competition prior to BIG EAST Tournament play. The match will be broadcast on the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN) via Fox Sports Go.

Scouting the Red Storm
The Red Storm enter Friday's match with an overall record of 9-3-5 and a 4-2-2 mark in BIG EAST play. The Red Storm tallied their fourth BIG EAST victory over Villanova University, 1-0 on Oct. 23. Sophomore Samie Scaffidi and junior Shea Connors lead the St. John's attack with 10 points on the season. Scaffidi has tallied four goals, three game-winning, and two assists. Connors has notched three goals and four assists on the season. The Red Storm have outshot and outscored opponents, 251-158 and 20-9 respectively. A total of 11 St. John's players have tallied goals on the season.

Goalkeeper Diana Poulin posts a 9-3-5 record on the season and holds a BIG EAST high 11 shutouts. On Oct. 24, Poulin was named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week for the second-straight week. The senior leads the BIG EAST with a 0.44 goals against average and a .887 save percentage.

St. John's sits in fifth place in the BIG EEAST, only two points behind the Friars.

Scouting the Friars
The Friars are 11-5-2 overall and 5-2-1 in BIG EAST competition. The Friars improved their record in a 1-0 win over Seton Hall on Oct. 23 in Providence, R.I. Junior Madison Doherty scored her first career and the game-winning goal to lift the Friars to victory and earn a post season berth in the BIG EAST Tournament scheduled to begin on Nov. 1.

Graduate student Kathryn Hiller (Dartmouth, Mass.) leads the Friars with 17 points, scoring eight goals and adding one assist. Hiller has notched two game-winning goals on the season in victories over Maine on Aug. 28 (1-0) and Creighton on Oct. 15 (1-0). Senior Rachel Ugolik (Hamden, Conn.) has recorded 15 points on six goals and three assists. Ten Friars have tallied goals on the season as the team has outscored opponents 27-16.

Senior goalkeeper Kristyn Shea (Piscataway, N.J.) has recorded a BIG EAST high 86 saves on the season. Shea and the Friars back line have recorded 10 shutouts on the season. The senior posts a 0.85 goals against average and a .843 save percentage.

BIG EAST Tournament play begins on Tuesday, Nov. 1. The Friars have clinched a playoff spot and could finish as high as second and as low as fifth.

Oct. 24: Junior Madison Doherty (Peabody, Mass.) was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll after scoring the game-winning goal in the Friars, 1-0 win over Seton Hall on Oct. 23.
Oct. 17: Graduate student Kathryn Hiller (Dartmouth, Mass.) was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll after scoring the game winning overtime goal over Creighton on Oct. 15.
Oct. 3: Senior goalkeeper Kristyn Shea (Piscataway, N.J.) earned her third BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week award of the 2016 season as announced by the league. Shea finished the weekend 2-0, after a win over Xavier University, 2-1, and a 1-0 win over 2015 BIG EAST Champions Butler University.
Sept. 26: Senior goalkeeper Kristyn Shea (Piscataway, N.J.) was named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week after a shutout against then-No.6/3 Georgetown University.
Sept. 19: Senior Rachel Ugolik (Hamden, Conn.) was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week after a 2-0 weekend with Friar victories over Central Connecticut on Sept. 15 (3-1) and Massachusetts on Sept. 18 (3-0). The forward was tied for most points on the weekend in the BIG EAST on two goals and two assists.
Sept. 5: Senior goalkeeper Kristyn Shea (Piscataway, N.J.) was named BIG EAST goalkeeper of the week after a shutout weekend against both Boston University and Colgate University.
Sept. 5: Junior Juliana Pellegrini (Rockville Centre, N.Y) received BIG EAST honor roll recognition after scoring three of the Friars' seven goals on the weekend.
Aug. 29: Graduate student Kathryn Hiller (Dartmouth, Mass.) was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll after scoring both of the Friars' goals against Northeastern and Maine, respectively.
Aug. 22: Sophomore Katie Day (East Hampstead, N.H.) earned BIG EAST Honor Roll after notching her first career goal on a penalty kick in the 82nd minute against then, No. 10 Rutgers.
