Swimming and Diving Grab Victory At Holy Cross

WORCESTER, MASS. - The Providence College swimming and diving team traveled to The College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass. on Saturday Jan. 23. The Friars defeated the Crusaders on both the men's side (154-140) and the women's side (195-102).

On the women's side, sophomore Katherine Fallon (Warren, N.J.) finished first in the 1000y freestyle (10:39.77), the 500y freestyle (5:17.28), and the 200y freestyle (1:56.31). Freshman Abby Czerniecki (Haddonfield, N.J.) took first place in the 200y breaststroke (2:33.70) and the 100y breaststroke (1:10.34). Freshman Juliet McGlaughlin (West Chester, Pa.) came in first place in the 100y backstroke (1:03.13). Also, junior Kelly Quinn(Garden City, N.Y.) took first place in the 50y freestyle (25.47). In the 100y freestyle, senior Reilly O'Connell (West Barnstable, Mass.) came in first place (55.83). Freshman Madeline Snow (Bethany, Conn.) earned first place in the 200y IM (2:18.44).

The women's team also took first place in both the 200y medley relay (1:54.58) and the 200y freestyle relay (1:41.96).

On the men's side, freshman Ricky Billig (Sudbury, Mass.) took first in the 100y backstroke (54.93) and the 200y backstroke (2:02.63). Sophomore Connor Fabian (LaGrange Park, Ill.) also took first in two events, 100y breaststroke (1:01.61) and the 200y breaststroke (2:14.94). Freshman Jerod Magazine (Coto De Caza, Calif.) grabbed first in the 1000y freestyle (10:18.16). Senior Zach Begnaud (Natchitoches, La.) took first place in the 500y freestyle (4:57.94). Also, sophomore Austin McGowan (Mansfield, Mass.) placed first in the 200y butterfly (2:04.37).

The men's team placed first in the 200y freestyle relay with a time of 1:29.64.

The Providence College Friars' swimming and diving team returns to action against the Boston College Eagles in Providence, R.I. on Friday Jan. 29 at 3:00 P.M. ET in the Taylor Natatorium.
