Final Stats

NEW ORLEANS - The Providence College women's volleyball team won straight sets (25-21, 25-22, 25-23) over La Salle to finish New Orleans Invitational with a 2-1 record. The Friars have won each of their last two matches in straight-sets and improve to 3-4 overall, while La Salle drops to 3-3.

The last time the Friars won back-to-back matches in straight sets dates back to the 2007 season, when the team defeated Quinnipiac (Oct. 3) and Chicago State (Oct. 5).

The Friars' defense was led by Michelle Cruz (Midland Park, N.J.), who recorded 11 digs on the match. Providence's attack was led by Emily Horner (Mission Viejo, Calif.), who notched 11 kills on 18 total attacks (.500). Horner's 11 kills mark a season-high.

Kayla Fitzgerald (Redlands, Calif.) also tallied 11 kills, while freshman Allison Impellizeri (Seaford, N.Y.) also contributed to the Friars offense, with seven kills on 13 total attacks (.538).

Setter Jordan Wiesler (Coconut Creek, Fla.) picked up 28 assists to move her season total to 199.

Providence is back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 8 at 7:00 p.m. against the Brown University Bears. The match will be the Friars' first home match of the 2015 season.
