DURHAM, N.H. - The Providence College field hockey team fell to New Hampshire, 2-1, on Sept. 25 at Memorial Field in Durham, N.H.
Senior Emily Matthews (Marshfield, Mass.) scored the Friars' lone goal of the game in the 46th minute to get Providence within one goal (2-1). In the closing minute of the game, the Friars also recorded two of their four penalty corners in the game. The second corner generated a fantastic opportunity to tie the match, 2-2, but Emma Lucas' (Naarden, Netherlands) effort hit the left post.
The Wildcats mounted their two-goal lead with markers from Lindsey Nerbonne and Gianna Bensaia in the 16th minute and 43rd minute, respectively.
New Hampshire out-shot Providence, 12-7, while both teams recorded four penalty corners in the game.
Megan Guilbert (Morganville, N.J.) recorded five saves for the Friars in goal. Melissa Rize posted two saves for UNH.
Providence returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 27 against Fairfield. The game will be played at Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I. and is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
