Volleyball Opens BIG EAST Play At Xavier And Butler

PROVIDENCE, RI - The Providence College women's volleyball team will begin BIG EAST play at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 25 against Xavier in Cincinnati, Ohio. The Friars will then travel to Indianapolis, Ind. to play Butler at 4:00 p.m. on Sept. 26. Live stats will be provided for each match and the links are below:

SCOUTING PROVIDENCE COLLEGE: The Providence College Friars open BIG EAST play with a 9-5 record. The Friars went on an eight-game run, and a twenty-one set run. The Friars most recently competed in the Bucknell Invitational and went 2-1, including wins over Delaware State in straight sets and tournament host, Bucknell, 3-1. Kayla Fitzgerald (Redlands, Calif.) and Marina Rose (Coventry, Conn.) recorded two double-doubles against Bucknell and Colgate (2-3). Fitzgerald was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll after tallying 49 kills and 37 digs, moving her season totals to 184 kills and 123 digs. Freshmen Emily Horner (Mission Viejo, Calif.) and Allison Impellizeri (Seaford, N.Y.) help lead the Friars' attack with 127 and 118 kills, respectively. Jordan Wiesler (Coconut Creek, Fla.) has been impressive for the Friars, recording 110 digs and 481 assists on the season. Defensive specialist Michelle Cruz (Midland Park, N.J.) has posted 180 digs on the season.
SCOUTING XAVIER: The Xavier Musketeers began BIG EAST play on Sept. 23 with a straight set win at Marquette, pushing their overall record to 5-6. The Musketeers are led by outside hitter Abbey Bessler, who posted a double-double in the win against Marquette and has recorded 135 kills and 142 digs on the season. Defensive specialist Meredith Klare leads the Musketeers in digs (196). Setter Mackenzi Humm has tallied 209 assists and 103 digs. Xavier was picked to finish third in the BIG EAST pre-season coaches' poll.
SCOUTING BUTLER: The Butler Bulldogs opened BIG EAST play on Sept. 23 with a 3-2 win at DePaul. Butler currently holds a 4-9 overall record and was picked fifth in the BIG EAST pre-season coaches' poll. The Bulldogs are led by Anna Logan who has tallied 149 kills and 123 digs. The Butler defense is headed by Kodi Smith, with 130 digs. Setter Makayla Ferguson has posted 398 assists and 113 digs.
