Field Hockey Heads To Durham To Face New Hampshire

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College field hockey team will travel to Durham, N.H. on Friday, Sept. 25 to face the University of New Hampshire at 3 p.m.

SCOUTING PROVIDENCE COLLEGE: The Providence College field hockey team enters Friday's game vs. UNH with a 1-7 overall record. Last week, the Friars earned their first win of the year with a 6-1 effort against Brown on Sept. 17. Providence followed with a 2-1 loss to Columbia on Sept. 20 in New York, N.Y.

Junior Adrienne Houle (Burlington, Ontario) leads the Friars with seven points on three goals and one assist. Sophomore Abby Thornton (West Pittston, Pa.) and senior Emily Matthews (Marshfield, Mass.) are tied for second in scoring with five points each. Thornton owns two goals and one assist, while Matthews checks in with one goal and three assists. Freshman Emma Lucas (Naarden, Netherlands) and senior Emma Mackie (Delta, British Columbia) have recorded four points apiece. Lucas, who was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Sept. 21, scored two goals in the Friars' victory over Brown. Mackie is the team leader in assists (four).

Sophomore goalkeeper Megan Guilbert (Morganville, N.J.) has played each of the last two games for Providence, and 201 minutes overall in the cage. She owns a 2.09 goals against average and a 0.800 save percentage.

Last season, Providence defeated New Hampshire, 3-1, on Sept. 19 at Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I. Meg Flatley gave the Wildcats a 1-0 lead just 3:37 into match, but Providence rallied to score three unanswered goals to earn the victory. Current Friars Emily Matthews and Megan Hamilton each scored one goal in the game.

Providence will return to action on Sunday, Sept. 27 against Fairfield. The game will be played at Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I. and is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.

SCOUTING NEW HAMPSHIRE: New Hampshire enters Friday's game against Providence with a 2-5 overall record and have lost its last two games to William & Mary (3-2) on Sept. 18 and Maryland (5-2) on Sept. 20. Four of the Wildcats' opponents were nationally-ranked at the time of play and the squad has posted a 1-3 record in those matches. UNH defeated 18th-ranked Massachusetts, 4-3, on Aug. 29.

Meg Flatley leads the Wildcat's offense with eight points on three goals and two assists. Lindsey Nerbonne is second among her teammates in scoring with six points on three goals. Four other players have scored two goals each through seven games.

Melissa Rize has played all 494 minutes in goal for the Wildcats and has recorded a 3.40 goals against average and a 0.631 save percentage.
