Field Hockey Welcomes Brown To Lennon Family Field

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College field hockey team will host cross-city rival Brown on Thursday, Sept. 17 at 5:00 p.m. The game will be played at Lennon Family Field on the campus of Providence College in Providence, R.I.


SCOUTING PROVIDENCE COLLEGE
: The Friars are having an uncharacteristic season, thus far. The squad hasn't found its footing on the offensive end, and are still trying to fill the void of two, 30+ point scorers who were lost to graduation. Providence enters Thursday's game with a 0-6 record and have scored a total of just four goals this season. Last season, the Friars registered the second-highest total for goals in program history (66). Statistically in 2015, the Friars have been out-shot by their opponent's, 88-65, but hold the advantage in penalty corners through six games, 37-29.

Three of the Friars' losses have come against nationally-ranked opponents: No. 13 Boston College (3-0), No. 14 Michigan (1-0) and No. 19 Boston University (3-0). Additionally, three losses have been decided by a single goal.

Junior Adrienne Houle (Burlington, Ontario) and senior Emily Matthews (Marshfield, Mass.) lead the offense with three points each on one goal and one assist. Sophomores Abby Thornton (West Pittston, Pa.) and Eleana Cardarelli (Acton, Mass.) have scored one goal each for two points. Senior Emma Mackie (Delta, British Columbia) leads the team in assists (two).

Deidra Clymer (South Windsor, Conn.) has played 359 minutes in goal for Providence this season and has compiled a 2.54 goals against average and a 0.629 save percentage.


SCOUTING BROWN
: The Brown University field hockey team enters Thursday's game against Providence with a 2-2 overall record. The Bears started the season with a 4-1 loss to American on Sept. 4, and followed with back-to-back wins against Appalachian State (2-1) on Sept. 5 and Bryant (3-2, OT) on Sept. 12. In the Bears' fell to UMass Lowell, 2-1, in their most recent game on Sept. 13.

Katarina Angus and Hannah Rogers lead Brown in scoring, with each scoring five points on two goals and one assist. Six other Bears have cracked the scoring column with two points apiece. Katie Hammaker has played 280 minutes in goal for Brown and has recorded a 2.27 goals against average and a 0.679 save percentage.

Last year, Providence dominated play, with a 32-7 advantage in shots and a 15-2 edge in penalty corners. Despite the lop-sided stats, the Bears came away with a 2-0 victory. Shannon McSweeney managed to keep a clean slate for the Bears in goal, with 19 saves.
