PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's basketball team defeated Seton Hall, 69-62, on Saturday, Feb. 14 at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The Friars improved to 18-8 (8-5 BIG EAST), while the Pirates fell to 15-10 (5-8 BIG EAST).
Senior forward LaDontae Henton (Lansing, Mich.) scored a game-high 22 points and grabbed nine boards. Henton was followed by sophomore guard Kris Dunn (New London, Conn.) with 19 points. He also contributed eight assists and a game high six steals. Junior Tyler Harris (Dix Hills, N.Y.) added 10 points and seven rebounds for the Friars.
The first half ended with the Friars holding a seven-point lead, 32-25. Henton led all in scoring with 13 points. The largest lead the Friars held in the first half was seven points with under a minute left, 32-25. Freshman Isaiah Whitehead recorded six points to lead the Pirates in the first half.
In the second half, the Friars were in control of the game and leading by seven points (41-34) when Dunn committed his fourth foul. At that point, Seton Hall began to climb back in the game and forced the only tie of the second half (46-46) with 6:45 left in the game on a dunk by Brandon Mobley. Dunn was reinserted into the game and made one of two free throws. The Pirates then briefly took the lead (48-47) after a Sterling Gibbs' layup with 5:40 left in the game. However, the Friars went on a 14-4 run over the next four minutes and held a nine point lead (61-52) with 1:18 left in the game. Seton Hall was not able to get closer than five points over the final minute and the Friars earned their 18th win of the season.
Whitehead led Seton Hall with 20 points, including 4-10 shooting from three point territory.
Providence will return to action on Wednesday, February 18 at DePaul at 9 p.m. on CBS Sports Net.
