ROSEMONT, Ill. - The Providence College Friars earned an 84-57 win at DePaul on February 18 in BIG EAST men's basketball action. The Friars were paced by senior LaDontae Henton (Lansing, Mich.) and sophomore Kris Dunn (New London, Conn.). Henton registered a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds while Dunn had 21 points and four steals. Freshman Ben Bentil (Wilmington, Del.) also had a strong game with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
The win gives the Friars a 19-8 record overall and a 9-5 mark in BIG EAST action. DePaul fell to 12-15 overall and 6-8 in league play.
The Friars trailed early in the game, 7-2, but sophomore Junior Lomomba (Montreal, Quebec) completed a three-point play with 15:48 left in the half to tie the game at 7 and the Friars never looked back as their lead grew to as much as 19 points in the half. PC ended the first half with a 41-26 lead. Senior LaDontae Henton (Lansing, Mich.) led PC with 14 points and sophomore Kris Dunn (New London, Conn.) added 13 points and three steals. Myke Henry had seven points to pace DePaul.
The Friars did let up in the second half as their lead grew to 31 points with just over three minutes remaining in the game. For the game, the Friars shot an impressive 27-33 (81.8 %) from the free throw line and 52.8 % (28-53) from the field.
Providence will return to action on Tuesday, February 24 at Villanova at 7:00 p.m. The game will be televised on Fox Sports 1.
