HAMDEN, CONN. - The Providence College field hockey team played a dominant second half to defeat Quinnipiac, 3-2, on Oct. 11 in Hamden, Conn. Junior Adrienne Houle (Burlington, Ontario) scored two of the Friars' three second half goals in the victory.
Sophomore Abby Thornton (West Pittston, Pa.) got the Friars on the board for a 1-0 lead at 43:17 off a feed from senior Emma Mackie (Delta, British Columbia). Quinnipiac tied the game, 1-1, four minutes later as Felicia Costanzo converted a feed from Michelle Federico.
Houle came through with back-to-back goals at 57:33 and 64:49 to give Providence a 3-1 lead. Houle's first tally was assisted by freshman Kelsey Mendell (Landenberg, Pa.), while her second of the afternoon was unassisted. Houle leads the Friars with six goals on the year.
The Friars gave up a late goal to Quinnpiac, with just 32 seconds remaining, as Savanna Reilly found the back of the cage off a pass from Dayna Barlow. Regulation ended in favor of the Friars, 3-2.
The Friars out-shot the Bobcats, 14-6, including a 12-3 advantage in the second half of play. Providence also held an 8-4 edge in penalty corners.
