The Eagles jumped ahead to an early 2-0 lead in the first 4:26 of the game with back-to-back goals from Brittany Sheenan. Sheenan notched her first goal just 3:04 into the contest, unassisted, off a rebound. One minute and 22-seconds later at 4:26, she found the back of the cage as she one-timed a feed from Emma Plasteras. Boston College held the 2-0 lead into halftime.
In the second half, the Friars cut the deficit to one (2-1) as freshman Megan Hamilton (Warrington, Pa.) scored her first collegiate goal. Hamilton recorded the tally at the left post as she knocked in a crossing pass from junior Salene Shaffer (Millerstown, Pa.) in the 56th minute.
Boston College answered with an insurance goal in the 61st minute as Sheenan tipped in a ball from Eryn McCoy at the left post.
The Friars outshot the Eagles, 11-10, and shots on goal were even for both teams at 7-7. Providence held a 7-4 advantage in shots in the second half. Boston College held a 7-5 edge in penalty corners. The Friars recorded each of their five corners in the second half.
Senior goalkeeper Deidra Clymer (South Windsor, Conn.) registered four saves for Providence. Leah Settipane made six saves in goal for Boston College.
