PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The tennis team kicked off their dual meet season Sunday with double-header victories over Holy Cross and Hartford. The Friars dominated both matches winning each by a score of 7–0.
While nine different starters recorded wins in the matches, the stars of the day were sophomores Jenn DeLuca (Riverside, CT) and Amanda Pitocco (Warwick, RI). The pair clinched the doubles points in both matches with their doubles wins at first doubles against Holy Cross and second doubles against Hartford. DeLuca and Pitocco were the only two players to play all four matches on the day, and each went a perfect 4-0 without dropping a set.
The other highlight of the day was Providence’s depth. With four players out with injuries the Friar’s depth was essential and PC dominated at No. 5 and No. 6 singles in both matches. Alana Prinos (Foxborough, MA) and Olivia Hogan (Gaithersburg, MD) were also impressive, both winning two singles matches each, and Hogan recording a third win in doubles. Coach Kyle LaBranche was pleased with the way his team stepped-up in light of so many recent injuries. “It was a great all around team performance and now we'll have a nice two week break from competition to rest and get healthy.”
