Women's Tennis Concludes Three Day Brown Invitational

Junior Alana Prinos (Foxborough, Mass.) competed in the Scarlet Draw, defeating Sarah Kandath from Brown (6-3, 3-1). She fell to Irina Kostirko from Boston Univeristy (6-1, 6-4) in semifinal play. She lost to Nadia Smergut from Stony Brook in the backdraw, ending the competition with a 1-2 record.
In the Black Draw, junior Olivia Hogan (Gaithersburg, Md.) went 1-2, beating Lindsay Balsamo from Rutgers (6-3, 0-6, 6-2) and moving onto the semifinals. She lost to Yana Nikolaeva from Stony Brook in the semifinals (6-1, 6-1), and Maddie Stearns from Brown in the back draw (6-0, 6-2).
In the Maroon Draw, sophomore Jennifer DeLuca (Riverside, Conn.) earned a 1-1 record, beating Becky Shtilkind from Stony Brook (4-6, 6-4, 6-2), but falling to Brittany Collens of UMass.
Freshman Emma Burgess (Huntsville, Ala.) won her first match against Sophie Wyman from Boston University (6-4, 6-3), but lost to Anna Woosley of UMass (6-3, 7-6 (5)).
On our doubles team, sophomore Amanda Pitocco (Warwick, R.I.) and DeLuca earned a second place finish in their round robin flight.
The Friars are back in action on Sunday, Sept. 28 when the team will have their first home match of the season. Providence will host Holy Cross at 11:00 a.m. and Hartford at 3 p.m.
