The Friars fell is the first set 25-21. Seniors Mackenzie Ziegler (Portage, Wis.) and Annie Russian (Round Rock, Texas) had a set-best three kills. Junior Jordan Wiesler (Coconut Creek, Fla.) tallied eight assists.
In the second set, the Friars lost 25-22. Ziegler again led Providence in kills with six in this stanza. Wiesler contributed 11 assists and seven digs.
The Bears closed out the match with a 25-18 win in the third set. Sophomore Kayla Fitzgerald (Redlands, Calif.) resisted four kills while Wiesler added 10 assists.
For the match, the Providence was led by Fitzgerald and Ziegler who had 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Wiesler had a match-best 29 assists. She also had 13 digs. Sophomore Michelle Cruz (Midland Park, N.J.) had a team-high 14 digs.
Providence out hit Brown in the second set with 15 kills to the Bears' 14.
Brown was led by Payton Smith with 12 kills. Sarah Lucenti tallied 25 assists and Kathryn Conner had 16 digs.
The Friars will next play on Friday, Sept. 12 and Saturday, Sept. 13 when they host the 10th Annual Friar Classic in Alumni Hall. Quinnipiac, Fairleigh Dickinson and Morgan State will compete alongside Providence in the tournament.
