The Providence College women's basketball team hosted in-state rival Rhode Island on Sunday, Dec. 7 at Alumni Hall, where the Friars fell to the Rams, 63-56. Providence moves to 3-6 on the year while Rhode Island improves to 6-3.

Rhode Island sank its first basket of the game at the 19:15 mark and remained in the lead for the duration of the first half. Sydney Lewis paced Rhode Island with eight points and the Rams carried a 29-22 lead into the break. Harris led the Friar offense with 10 first-half points.

Rhode Island extended its lead to as many as 11 points in the second half, 55-44, with 7:08 remaining. Beginning at that mark, the Friars went on a 10-0 run to pull within one point of the Rams, 55-54, but that was as close as they would get (2:09). Charise Wilson helped the Rams secure the victory with 16 second-half points.

Seniors Tori Rule (Minneapolis, Minn.) and Chanise Baldwin (Pontiac, Mich.) joined Harris in double figures with 17 and 12 points, respectively. Baldwin notched her first career double-double in the game by adding 12 rebounds.

Providence returns to action on Thursday, Dec. 11 when the Friars travel to Fort Myers, Fla. for an evening contest with Florida Gulf Coast. Tip-off at Alico Arena is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
