PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's basketball team was edged by Virginia Tech, 72-69, on Sunday, Nov. 23. at Alumni Hall in Providence, R.I. Four Friars finished in double figures, including senior Alexis Harris (Detroit, Mich.) who notched her second double-double of the season with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

With 4:18 remaining in the first half Providence trailed Virginia Tech, 31-25. The Friars closed the half on a 7-2 run to pull within one of the Hokies headed into the break (33-32). Providence tallied 13 of its 32 points off of Virginia Tech turnovers. Rachel Camp paced the Hokies with nine points and three assists.

Sophomore guard Sarah Beal (Matthews, N.C.) led the Friar offense through the first 20 minutes of play with nine points and two assists. Harris added seven points, hauled in four boards and dished out two assists.

Viginia Tech extended its lead to as many as nine points in the second half, 48-39 (13:03). From there the Friars outscored the Hokies, 23-14 to even the game at 62-62 with 1:38 remaining. At the 1:26 mark the Friars took a one point lead, 64-63, on a jumper from freshman Allegra Botteghi (Bologna, Italy). Virgina Tech closed the game on a 9-5 run to regain the lead and secure the Hokies' victory.

Botteghi tallied a career high 15 points, two assists and two steals. Beal finished the game with 15 points and five assists.

Senior Tori Rule (Minneapolis, Minn.) notched her 1,000th career point after sinking a jumper at the 16:03 mark of the first half. Rule marks the 32nd Friar to eclipse the 1,000 career point mark. She finished the game with 14 points and has netted 1,012 career points.

Providence returns to action on Wednesday, Nov. 26 when the Friars travel to Dayton, Ohio. The Friars and Dayton Flyers are scheduled to tip-off at UD Arena at 7:00 p.m.
