Game Notes vs. DePaul
The No. 8/11 Providence College men's soccer team will host DePaul for its final conference home game of the season at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 29. The Friars will recognize the 2015 graduating class as part of senior day. Following the match-up with the Blue Demons, the Friars will travel to Indianapolis, Ind. for a 1:00 p.m. game on Sunday, Nov. 2 against Butler.

Scouting the Blue Demons
The Blue Demons enter Wednesday's game with a 4-7-4 (1-3-2 BIG EAST) record after a 1-1 tie against Saint John's on Saturday, Oct. 25. With four goals and two assists for ten points, Simon Megally is the current point leader for DePaul. Goalkeeper Mack Robinson has played 13 of the 15 games in net for the Blue Demons. Robinson has registered three shutouts on the season, recording 65 saves for a .747 save percentage.

Scouting the Bulldogs
Prior to the Providence vs. Butler game, the Bulldogs will play a home game against Seton Hall on Wednesday, Oct. 29. Butler currently has a 5-6-4 (1-4-1 BIG EAST) record coming off of a 1-0 loss at Villanova on Saturday, Oct. 25. David Goldsmith leads the Bulldogs in points, followed by Jeff Adkins. Goldsmith has registered five goals and three assists for 13 points, while Adkins has recorded five goals and two assists for 12 points. Eric Dick and Andy Holte have split time in goal. Dick has been in net for 10 games, registering four shutouts and 32 saves for a .780 save percentage and a 3-4-3 record. Holte has seen time in six of the 15 games for Butler recording one shutout and 19 saves for a 2-2-1 record on the season.
Last Week
Providence continued its unbeaten streak (6-0-2) after a 1-1 tie at then 15th-ranked Marquette (10/22) and a 3-0 shutout of Seton Hall (10/25) in back-to-back road games last week. Sophomore Julian Gressel recorded a goal in each game, while sophomore Mac Steeves and senior Fabio Machado each registered a goal against Seton Hall. The Friars now have a 9-2-2 (4-0-2 BIG EAST) record on the season.
Three Members Of The Providence Men's Soccer Team Earn BIG EAST Weekly Honors
It was announced on Oct. 27 by the BIG EAST Conference that red-shirt senior Keasel Broome and sophomore Julian Gressel were named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week and BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, respectively. Broome earned the honor for his six-save week (three saves in each game) and fifth shutout of the season at Seton Hall (3-0). Gressel earned his honor for tallying a goal in each of Providence's road games. Senior Phil Towler was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for his efforts on the road against then 15th-ranked Marquette and his assist on the first goal of the game against Seton Hall.
Playoff Picture
The Providence College men's soccer team is currently sitting tied for first with Xavier in the BIG EAST standings. The top-six teams at the end of regular season play will earn BIG EAST Tournament playoff bids. The top-two teams earn a bye to the semifinals. The third-ranked team in the standings will host the sixth-place team, while the fourth-place team will host No. 5 at campus sites for the quarterfinals. The semifinals and championship of the BIG EAST Tournament will be held at PPL Park, Philadelphia, Pa. On Friday, Nov. 14, semifinals will get underway, followed by the BIG EAST Championship game on Sunday, Nov. 16.
Broome Posts 12th Career Shutout
After the 3-0 shutout on the road against Seton Hall, Friar goalkeeper Keasel Broome recorded his fifth shutout of the season. The game also marked his 12th career shutout in a total of 49 games. His four other shutouts this season came in a 2-0 win versus Bryant (8/29), a 2-0 win versus Holy Cross (9/5), a 0-0 tie versus Xavier (10/4) and a 2-0 win at then third-ranked Georgetown (10/15).
Overtime With Craig Stewart
Over the last three years, under head coach Craig Stewart, the Friars have headed into overtime a total of 17 times combining for an overtime record of 5-3-9. Two of those overtime games occurred in conference and NCAA Tournament play.
Moving Up In The Polls
The Providence College men's soccer team moved up in the national rankings on Tuesday, Oct. 28. The Friars are now ranked 8th by Soccer America and 11th by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). The last time the team was among the top-20 teams in the nation was on Nov. 16, 2010 when they had a ranking of 19/20 (Soccer America/NSCAA).
Into The National Polls
The Friars jumped into the polls for the first time this season on Tuesday, Oct. 21 with a No. 10 ranking by Soccer America and a No. 23 ranking by NSCAA. The last time the Friars were ranked among the top-25 in the nation was on Oct. 8, 2013 when they were 23/25 (Soccer America/NSCAA).
The Mac Attack
Mac Steeves has scored a goal in eight of the 13 games played thus far. Dating back to last season, Steeves has scored 11 goals in the last 20 games. Over the last two seasons, Providence also has a 10-1-0 record when Steeves scores.
Top Of The BIG EAST
The Providence College men's soccer team is ranked first in the BIG EAST for their scoring offense, points per game (5.92), total points (77) and total goals (28) this season. Mac Steeves and Fabio Machado also are among BIG EAST conference leaders. Steeves is currently ranked first for goals per game (0.62) and points per game (1.38) and second for total goals (8), while Machado has the most assists per game (0.46) and total assists (6) in the league.
Among NCAA's Best
As of Oct. 27, the Providence College men's soccer team is ranked ninth in the country for its scoring offense. They are also ranked 17th in the nation for points per game (5.92) with a total of 28 goals and 21 assists for 77 points on the season. Mac Steeves and Fabio Machado are also among the top-25 in the nation for their individual performances this season. Steeves is ranked 20th for goals per game (0.62) and 25th for total goals (8), while Machado is ranked 23rd for assists per game (0.46) and 22nd for total assists (6).
Kilday Scores First Collegiate Goal
On Sept. 5, the Friars recorded a 2-0 shutout against Holy Cross. Jeff Kilday helped ensure the win after scoring his first collegiate goal. For his efforts, he was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Sept. 8.
Naglestad Sets NCAA Record
Red-shirt senior Markus Naglestad helped secure a victory over in-state rival Rhode Island on Aug. 30 after he scored four of the five Friar goals. Three of the four goals came within two minutes of each other (75:11, 76:07 and 77:11), breaking the NCAA Division I men's soccer record for the fastest three consecutive goals by the same player. The record was set on Oct. 20, 1985 by John Stone of SIU Edwardsville after he scored three goals within 2:15 of each other. For his efforts, Naglestad was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week (Sept. 1).
Looking Ahead For The Friars
After Butler, Providence will play their final regular season conference game of the season at No. 10 Creighton in Omaha, Neb. at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 7.
