Final Stats PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's soccer team dropped its game at Creighton in overtime, 2-1, on Oct. 2 in Omaha, Neb. The Friars are 5-5-2 (BIG EAST 1-2-0) on the season, while Creighton advances to 9-3-0 (BIG EAST 1-2-0).
In the 34th minute of play the Friars took the lead, 1-0, when senior Allison Walton (Brunswick, Maine) recorded her second goal on the season. Junior Catherine Zimmerman (Madison, N.J.) was awarded the assist for her fifth on the season.
The Bluejays responded with a goal off a penalty kick from Ylenia Sachau in the 35th minute to tie the game, 1-1. The game remained scoreless in regulation play and the Friars and Bluejays went into overtime.
In the 106th minute of play, Creighton scored to win the match, 2-1. Addison Nokels notched the game-winning goal, with an assist from Kirstyn Corder.
The Friars held the advantage in shots (21-12) and shots on goal (15-3). Goalkeeper Kristyn Shea (Piscataway, N.J.) played all 106:25 minutes and recorded one save. In net for the Bluejays, Danielle Rice registered 14 saves.
"It was a tough result on the road for the team," said Head Coach Sam Lopes. "When you create 21 shots with 15 of them on frame and limit your opponents to only three on goal, you hope to have done enough for a positive result. Unfortunately, that was not the case tonight and that's what makes the this sport unique, as well as cruel at same time. We didn't lose tonight, we just didn't win- a massive difference."
Providence will continue its BIG EAST lineup to play Georgetown at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 5 in Washington, D.C.
