HAMDEN, Conn. - Providence College volleyball defeated Quinnipiac in three straight sets (25-18, 25-23, 25-15) on Wednesday night. The Friars are now 2-2 on the season and Quinnipiac falls to 0-5.

The first set saw no lead changes, with PC leading the whole way. Junior Mackenzie Ziegler (Portage, Wis.) recorded six kills in the set and freshman Kayla Fitzgerald (Redlands, Calif.) tallied seven digs.

Ziegler again led the Friars in kills in the second set with four. The team tallied four blocks with sophomore Lindsay Witt (Basking Ridge, N.J.), junior Annie Russian (Round Rock, Texas), freshman Marina Rose (Coventry, Conn.) and Ziegler registering either a block or a block assist.

In the third set, PC's largest margin of victory in the match (25-15), Fitzgerald recorded four kills and freshman Michelle Cruz (Midland Park, N.J.) tallied nine digs.

On the night, Providence had the advantage in kills (42-27) and blocks (6-4). The teams were even in service aces with four apiece. Ziegler had a game-best 13 kills. Eight other players registered a kill for the Friars. Sophomore Jordan Wiesler (Coconut Creek, Fla.) tallied 32 assists and Cruz led in digs with 16.

Allison Leigh led the Bobcats with 10 kills and Emma Ogden contributed 24 assists and 11 digs in the match.

Providence heads to DeLand, Fla. for the Stetson Tournament on Friday, Sept. 6 and Saturday, Sept. 7. The Friars will play Savanna State on Friday at 5 p.m. On Saturday, Providence will play the host team Stetson at 11 a.m. and Bethune Cookman at 1 p.m.
