PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College junior field hockey player Daniella Bernasconi (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week on Monday, September 2. Bernasconi tallied the game-winning goal, in overtime, to help the Friars defeat 11th-ranked Northwestern, 2-1, on August 30.
Bernasconi's game winner came just 3:33 into the extra session, and marked her only shot of the game. The Friar victory is the first over a nationally-ranked opponent since defeating 4th-ranked Princeton during the 2009 season.
Junior goalkeeper Deidra Clymer (South Windsor, Conn.) also claimed league honors as she was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. Clymer registered a career-high nine saves in the Friars' victory over 11th-ranked Northwestern, and finished with a 1-1 record in two games last week.
The Friars return to action on Wednesday, September 4 against non-conference foe Holy Cross. The game will be played at Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I. and is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
