PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's basketball team was defeated by Marquette, 81-70, on Tuesday, February 26 at Alumni Hall/Mullaney Gymnasium in Providence, R.I. Sophomore Tori Rule (Minneapolis, Minn.) scored a game high 25 points and recorded a career high five steals.

Providence trailed Marquette, 43-32, at the half behind Lauren Tibbs, who shot a perfect 6-6 from the field for a total of 12 first-half points. Rule led Providence through the first 20 minutes of play with 12 points.

Marquette held its largest lead of the game (15 points) with 14:50 left to play in regulation (54-39). Providence came within eight points of the Golden Eagles at the 3:41 mark (72-64) and again with 30 seconds left to play (78-70), but were not able to overcome the deficit.

Marquette dominated the boards, 49-21, and the Golden Eagles tallied 24 points off of second chance opportunities.

Senior Symone Roberts (New Britain, Conn.) joined Rule in double figures with 17 points, as well as sophomore Danielle Pearson (Brooklyn, N.Y.) who notched a career high 16 points. Roberts also tied her career high with six steals and added three assists.

The game versus Marquette served as the back drop for the program's annual Think Pink initiative. The Friars wore special pink uniforms to support the fight against breast cancer. The uniforms will be added to an online auction beginning Wednesday, February 27 at 10:00 a.m. All proceeds from the auction will benefit the Kay Yow Foundation. The opening bid for each pink uniform will begin at $85. However, each jersey also will have a "Buy It Now" option for $300. The auction will conclude on Wednesday, March 13 at 10:00 a.m.

Providence returns to action on Saturday, March 2 when it hosts No. 2/2 Notre Dame in its final regular season home game. Tip-off at Alumni Hall/Mullaney Gymnasium is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. Prior to the start of the game the class of 2013 will be recognized for their contributions to the Providence College women's basketball program.
