Cross Country Sweeps BIG EAST Weekly Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Junior Shane Quinn (Waterford, Ireland) and senior Emily Sisson (Chesterfield, Mo.) of the Providence College men's and women's cross country teams were recognized for their performances over the weekend by the BIG EAST. Quinn earned BIG EAST Male Athlete of the Week and Sisson was named BIG EAST Female Athlete of the Week, Today (Oct. 22).

Quinn led the men to a 12th place finish at the Wisconsin Adidas Invitational on Oct. 19. Quinn finished first for the Friars in ninth place with a season-best time of 23:32 in the 8k race for his third top finish for the Friars. The weekly league honor was Quinn's second, he previously earned the title on Sept. 10 for a first place finish at the UNH Dual Meet on Aug. 31.

Sisson put up a time of 19:44 for a second place finish out of 288 competitors in the 6k race at Wisconsin on Oct. 19. Sisson led the Friars to a third place finish with her fourth top-three finish of the season. It is Sisson's second time being recognized by the league for her performance this season. On Sept. 17, Sisson was recognized with the weekly league honor for a first place finish at the Stony Brook Invitational on Sept. 14.

The men and women have combined for five BIG EAST weekly honors this season from three different Friars.

Both the men and the women are back in action on Friday, Oct. 25, when the two teams will send competitors to the CCSU Mini Meet in New Britain, Conn. for a 3:00 p.m. start time. It will mark the last meet before the Friars enter the BIG EAST Championships in Kenosha, Wis. on Nov. 2.
