CHICAGO, Ill. - The Providence College women's basketball team fell to DePaul in BIG EAST regular-season action, 79-67, on January 19 at McGrath Arena in Chicago, Ill. Sophomore Tori Rule (Minneapolis, Minn.) led three Friars in double figures with 19 points. Senior Symone Roberts (New Britain, Conn.) added 18 points, including 14 in the second half.

The Friars got off to a 4-0 lead to start the game, but DePaul went on a 15-0 run to take a 15-4 lead with 14:21 left in the first half. Brianna Edwards (Minneapolis, Minn.) halted the Blue Demons' run with a pair of free throws at the 14:01 mark. DePaul then extended its run to 21-4 with 11:38 remaining in the half, and held a 21-8 advantage.

Providence chipped away to get within seven (23-16) at the 8:47 mark after going on an 8-2 run. DePaul answered with a 15-4 run to take its largest lead of the half (38-20) with 4:22 to play. Providence battled back once again with an 8-0 run to get within 10 (38-28), but the Blue Demons closed out the half on a 5-0 run to take a 43-28 lead into the locker room, including a three-point basket by Kelsey Reynolds with two seconds remaining on the game clock.

The Friars started the second half just like the first, scoring the first four points to get within 11 points (43-32), but DePaul managed to push its lead to 18 (53-35) on a 10-3 spurt with 13:50 to play. The Blue Demons' lead grew to as many as 20 (69-49) with 7:05 on the clock.

Providence kept fighting down the stretch and pulled within 12 on a Danielle Pearson (Brooklyn, N.Y.) three-pointer, but the comeback fell short.

Edwards joined Rule and Roberts in double figures with 14 points and added five rebounds. Sophomore Alexis Harris (Detroit, Mich.) led Providence on the boards with eight, while sophomore Chanise Baldwin (Pontiac, Mich.) hauled in seven. Both teams finished with 38 rebounds apiece.

Brittany Hyrnko led the Blue Demons with 23 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and three steals. Jasmine Penny contributed 18 points, while Katherine Harry tallied 10 points and seven rebounds.

The Friars outscored the Blue Demons 39-36 in the second half, as they shot 15-35 from the field (.429), including 6-11 from beyond the three-point arc (.545).

Providence returns to action on Wednesday, January 23 against Villanova. It marks the first of two meetings against the Wildcats this season. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Alumni Hall/Mullaney Gymnasium in Providence, R.I.
