Women's Tennis Finishes Play At Brown Invitational

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's tennis team competed at the Brown Invitational on September 21-23. The Friars competed in No. 1, No. 4 and No. 6 singles flights along with doubles draws.

Senior Marisela Aviles-Duron (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) finished the weekend 1-2 with a win over Katherine Medianik of Binghamton (6-7 (3), 6-1). Junior Maria Clara Bernardez (Santo Domingo, Dominican Rep.) and freshman Alana Prinos (Foxborough, Mass.) competed in No. 4 singles flight. Both defeated Sophie Wyman of Boston University in round-robin play, (6-1, 6-1) and (6-1, 6-0), respectively. They each concluded the weekend with 1-2 records. Sophomore Taylor Corder (Corinth, Miss.) had a strong finish for the Friars in No. 6 singles. She went 3-0 on the weekend with wins over Ninita Uberoi of Brown (6-3, 6-2), Missy Edelblum of Binghamton (6-7, 4-3 ret. (inj.)) and Satreethai Sasinin of Rutgers (6-3, 6-1).

The doubles draw was represented by the pairings of Aviles-Duron and Bernardez and Prinos and Corder. Aviles-Duron and Bernardez went 1-3 on the weekend in the doubles round-robin. The two earned their win over Edelblum and Tashiro of Binghamton (8-5). Prinos and Corder went 2-2 on the weekend with wins over Sasanin and Kayati of Rutgers (8-0) and Fileva and Wyman of Boston University (8-2).

The Friars are back in action this Thursday, September 27 at 3:00 p.m. when they host Massachusetts for their first home match of the season.
