Catherine Zimmerman Named BIG EAST Rookie Of The Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College freshman women's soccer player, Catherine Zimmerman (Madison, N.J.) was named BIG EAST Rookie of the Week for the second consecutive week. Zimmerman earned accolades for her performance in the Friars' wins over Brown and New Hampshire. With these victories, the Friars improve their record to 5-2-1. Zimmerman tallied five points for the Friars on two goals and one assist.

On Thursday, September 6, the Friars defeated Brown, 3-2. Zimmerman assisted the first goal of the match, which was finished by senior Mary Vercollone (Pembroke, Mass.). Zimmerman buried the game-winner on a penalty kick in the 68th minute.

On Sunday, September 9, Zimmerman notched her fifth goal of the season in the Friars' 2-1 victory over New Hampshire. After New Hampshire tied the game, 1-1, the Friars went on to win the game in double overtime when sophomore Allison Walton (Brunswick, Maine) finished a corner served in by teammate Laura DiClemente (Blue Bell, Pa.).

After eight games, Zimmerman leads the Friars in points with 11 on five goals and one assist.

The Friars open up BIG EAST play on Thursday, September 13 at St. John's. The game is slated for 7:00 p.m.
