Women's Tennis Drops Spring Opener To Brown, 4-1

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -

The Providence College women's tennis team fell to Brown University, 4-1, in an abbreviated match played on February 3 at the Pizzitola Center in Providence, R.I. Freshman Taylor Corder (Corinth, Miss.) earned the Friars' only victory in the match at No. 4 singles. She defeated Nimita Uberoi, 6-0 and 6-4.

At No. 1 singles, junior Marisela Aviles-Duron (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) fell to Ariel Caldwell, 6-3 and 6-3. At No. 2 singles, Maria Clara Bernardez (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) also fell, 6-3, 6-3, in a match played against Nikita Uberoi. Freshman Karen Ramirez (San Juan, Puerto Rico) dropped her No. 3 singles match to Laura Wiley, 6-1 and 6-0.

In the only doubles match of the evening, the freshmen duo of Taylor Ahlborn (Minneapolis, Minn.) and Alli Carnall (Hatfield, Mass.) fell to Carissa Aboubakare and Emily Gelber, 8-0.

Providence will return to action against Manhattan on March 3 in Riverdale, N.Y.
