Providence College Swimming Closes Strong At The BIG EAST Championships

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Providence College men's and women's swimming teams closed out the BIG EAST Swimming Championships in fine style.

On the women's side, junior Sam Schlich (Massepequa, N.Y), junior Erin Nanna (Westwood, Mass.), freshman Kelly O'Neill (Rye, N.Y.) and sophomore Jillian Mullany (Monroe, Conn.) placed ninth in the 400y freestyle relay event completing their run in 3:30.24. Schlich's lead leg of 51.48 set the new school record for the 100y freestyle. The women's team finished eleventh in the team rankings collecting 73 points.

On the men's side, Connor Lui (Monroe, Conn.), freshman James Butler (Medfield, Mass.), freshman Justin Tse (Framingham, Mass.) and sophomore Michael Luiz (New Bedford, Mass.) completed their 400y freestyle relay event in 3:10.04 placing them tenth overall. The foursome's time was also the tenth fastest ever for the Friars for the event. Lui's lead leg of 47.52 ranks seventh all-time for the Friars for the 100y freestyle. The men's team finished eleventh in the team rankings collecting 77 points.
